F4U Corsair "Whistling Death" Flight Demonstration

F4U Corsair "Whistling Death" Flight Demonstration

This is a compilation of clips of the Planes of Fame Museum's Corsair (Chino, California) and includes some clips of the Palm Springs Air Museum's own Corsair. Man, this thing just scoots, BIG TIME! Wow, just awesome!

Listen to the 2,000 horsepower generated by the 2,800 cubic inches of the supercharged, 18 cylinder Pratt & Whitney R-2800! You'll see during the flybys why the Japanese called this fighter the "Whistling Death."

This aircraft just leaps off the runway in just a few seconds, and remember, the manifold pressure used today for takeoff with 100-octane low-lead fuel is not anywhere near what could be used with the wartime, 130-octane+ fuel. Very impressive!

A Landing (and Takeoff) Like You've Never Seen

A Landing (and Takeoff) Like You've Never Seen

Here's a video that's just too good not to share. An intrepid aviator in his Super Cub lands atop a mountain in central Nevada, the oddly named Bunker Hill, at an altitude of around 11,000 feet.

The approach and landing are worth a watch, but the subsequent takeoff is absolutely spectacular. After stopping for a while on the chilly mountain (we know it must be cold because of the snow and the pilot's chuckle-worthy comment), our hero fires up his engine and does exactly what you'd expect.

We won't ruin the video for you by giving too much away, but trust us, it's well worth the 3 minutes and 22 seconds it takes to watch.

Blue Angels

NEW ON-BOARD CAMERA OF THE BLUE ANGELS

This is really good.  Did you know that the pilot on the right of the formation is always a Marine.

This is one of the best Blue Angel videos you'll see!!  Great perspective with much of it filmed from the cockpit.  You see the formation then see it from the pilot or camera view.  It is in High Definition.  This was recorded in FL. and CA.
